Jurassic Models – Welcome and a little bit of history
JURASSIC MODELS is a new company formed following the death of Alan Walker in March 2010. Alan’s TRIASSIC MODEL WORKS was responsible for introducing English manufactured laser cut kits to the world of 16mm scale narrow gauge railway modelling. Prior to this, a kit for the Festiniog Railway’s early 4-wheel passenger Brake Van, designed by Stuart Baker had been cut by John Clarke of Fall River Productions in the United States then shipped here for collating packing and marketing.
When Alan purchased a second-hand Laserpro Mercury engraver in 2006 following the demise of Fall River Productions, production of Stuart’s designs passed to him. Meanwhile Raif Copley of SixteenThirtyTwo Models had been drawing up designs and laboriously cutting card to laminate them into models with a view to having them laser-cut at some time in the future. Well the future had suddenly arrived and within a very short time kits for further Festiniog Railway models were emerging from Triassic Models Works.
JURASSIC MODELS now use a Trotec laser to produce some of the kits formerly produced by Triassic plus new ones designed more recently, in addition to more rolling stock kits for garden railways there are items such as point and servo motor mounts, Coal wagon load inserts, this type of thing usually results from a request to produce a custom item for a fellow modellers own layout which if I can see a possibility of use by others I’ll add to the range, I’m always happy to discuss custom items.
We make a great effort when designing items to do it right, that is when it is a scale model of a particular prototype, as much information as available will be used to ensure it is as close to being correct as is possible, when it comes to freelance items we would attempt to make it look as if there had been a prototype for it at some point in history.
